Before you can automate anything, you need to connect your Instagram account. This takes a few minutes and links your Instagram DMs, comments, and story interactions to Inrō through Meta. You can connect in two ways, and the first one is the simplest.
Before you start
You need one thing for sure: an Instagram Business or Creator account. Personal accounts can't use Instagram's messaging tools, so they won't work with Inrō. If you're still on a personal account, switch in the Instagram app: go to Settings → Account type and tools → Switch to professional account and choose Business or Creator.
⚠️ Use a desktop browser for the initial connection. Mobile browsers handle Meta's login popups inconsistently, and some permission screens get cut off.
One Instagram account connects to one Inrō organisation. If you run several Instagram accounts, each needs its own organisation.
Two ways to connect
When you start the connection, Inrō offers two login methods. They end in the same place, with your account fully connected.
Instagram Business Login (recommended). You log in directly with Instagram. There's nothing to set up on Facebook first, which is why this is the simplest option for most people. It also refreshes its own access automatically, so the connection is less likely to drop.
Facebook Business Login. You log in with Facebook and choose the Facebook Page that's linked to your Instagram account. This route is for more advanced setups, like managing several Pages. It requires your Instagram account to be linked to a Facebook Page, and the Facebook account you use must have admin access to that Page.
For your first connection, start with Instagram Business Login.
How to connect with Instagram Business Login
Log in to Inrō at app.inro.social from a desktop browser.
Go to Accounts → Instagram account. You'll see a connect option if no account is linked yet.
Click Connect, then choose Instagram. You'll be sent to Instagram's login screen.
Log in and grant all permissions. Instagram asks you to approve access to your messages, comments, content, and insights. Approve every one. Inrō needs all of them to work, and skipping any will break features later.
Verify the connection. Your Instagram username should now appear in the Accounts → Instagram account panel, and your recent conversations will start syncing to your inbox within a few minutes.
How to connect with Facebook Business Login
Use this route only if you manage your Instagram through a Facebook Page or need it for a multi-Page setup. First make sure your Instagram account is linked to a Facebook Page, and that your Facebook login has Full control of that Page (you can check in Meta Business Suite → Settings → People).
Log in to Inrō from a desktop browser and go to Accounts → Instagram account.
Click Connect, then choose Facebook. A Meta login popup appears.
Log in with the Facebook account that has admin access to the Page linked to your Instagram.
Grant all permissions Meta asks for (messages, comments, pages, profile). Approve all of them, and if Meta asks, opt in to all current and future businesses so nothing is left out.
Choose your Page. If your Facebook account manages more than one Page, pick the one linked to the Instagram account you want to connect.
Verify the connection in the Accounts → Instagram account panel. Follow the flow all the way back to Inrō; if you close the popup early, the connection won't finish.
After connecting
Your inbox starts filling with recent Instagram conversations, and your recent posts and stories sync into the Content screen. From here you can:
Browse and reply to DMs from your unified inbox.
Build your first scenario to automate replies.
Organise contacts into folders as they come in.
Set up your AI Agent to handle conversations for you.
The connection stays active until you disconnect it, change your password, or revoke Inrō's access in Meta. If it ever drops, you'll see a banner in Inrō prompting you to reconnect.
If the connection fails
Check these first:
"No Instagram account found" (Facebook login): your Facebook Page isn't linked to an Instagram account. Link them in your Page settings, then try again.
Error 400 or a permissions error: you skipped a permission during login. Disconnect and reconnect, approving every permission this time. See How to Fix Instagram Error 400.
"Already connected to another organization": that Instagram account is connected to a different Inrō organisation. See Fix: 'Already Connected to Another Organization'.
Wrong account connected: disconnect from Accounts → Instagram account and start again with the correct login.

🐾 Netsuke's Tips
When in doubt, choose Instagram Business Login. It's fewer steps, doesn't depend on a Facebook Page, and keeps itself connected longer.
After connecting, send yourself a test DM from another Instagram account. If it shows up in your Inrō inbox within a minute or two, you're good.
Connection problems almost always trace back to a skipped permission or a missing Facebook Page link. If something breaks, re-check those two things first.
