If your Instagram account won't connect to Inrō, or it was working and suddenly stopped, one of the fixes below will usually sort it out. Start at the top: most problems come down to a Facebook login session that expired, and a reconnect fixes them.
This article is the starting point for connection problems. If you have a specific error code on screen (Error 400, Authorization Missing, Missing Permissions, or a locked conversation), jump to the matching guide linked at the bottom.
What causes connection issues
A few things break the link between Inrō and Instagram:
You changed your Facebook or Instagram password.
You removed Inrō's access in your Facebook settings.
Your Instagram account type changed (for example, it was switched back to a personal account).
Your Facebook login session expired.
A Meta system issue interrupted the connection.
Reconnect your Instagram account first
This is the single most effective fix, and it resolves most connection issues.
Go to Accounts → Instagram account.
Click the refresh icon next to your connected account.
Follow the prompts to log in with Facebook again.
Select the correct Instagram account and grant every requested permission.
Once reconnected, open your inbox to confirm messages are flowing again.
Check that you have a Business or Creator account
Inrō doesn't work with personal Instagram accounts. If your account was recently switched back to personal, that breaks the connection.
To check, open Instagram, go to your profile, then Settings and privacy → Account type and tools. Confirm it shows Business or Creator. If not, switch to a professional account and reconnect.
Check your Facebook Page link and admin access
Your Instagram account needs to be linked to a Facebook Page, and you need to be an admin of that Page.
Page link: In Instagram, go to Edit profile → Page and link to an existing or new Facebook Page.
Admin access: In Facebook, go to Settings → Page roles and confirm you have a full admin role on the connected Page.
Acting as your Page: If you open a Facebook link from Inrō and the Page options look missing or greyed out, you may be browsing as your personal profile. In Facebook, click your profile photo (top right), choose See all profiles, and switch to your Page first.
⚠️ Not sure who owns your Page? Open the Page Management History after switching to act as your Page on Facebook, and look for the line that shows who "was given full control" of the Page. That person can grant you access.
Allow access to messages
If you can connect but no messages appear in Inrō, message access may be turned off on the Instagram side.
Open the Instagram mobile app, go to your profile, then Settings → Messages and story replies → Message controls and turn on Allow access to messages.
Still no messages after that? Open Meta Business Suite → Inbox → Instagram and check the conversation shows up there. If it does in Business Suite but not in Inrō, reconnect from Accounts → Instagram account to refresh the link.
Check that Inrō still has access on Facebook
Sometimes Inrō's access gets revoked on the Facebook side without you noticing.
Open your Facebook business integrations (also called Apps and Websites).
Look for Inrō in the list.
If it's there with limited access, open it and review what's granted.
To fully reset, remove Inrō here, then reconnect from inside Inrō.
Remove age or country restrictions
Age or country restrictions on your Facebook Page can block the connection. In your Facebook Page settings, open General and confirm Age restrictions and Country restrictions are turned off.
If you hit a security check
During the connection, Meta may ask you to confirm it's really you with a security code or an extra prompt.
Make sure you can open the email inbox or phone number tied to your Facebook account, so you can enter any code Meta sends.
Follow any security prompts all the way through. If you close the window partway, the connection won't finish and you'll need to start again.
If a stale login session is getting in the way, clear your browser cookies and cache, or use a private window, then reconnect.
If you see a specific error code
Each of these has its own short guide with the exact fix:
Error 400 during the connection flow: see How to fix Instagram Error 400.
Authorization Missing: see How to fix the Authorization Missing error.
Missing Permissions: see How to fix the Missing Permissions error.
Conversation locked: another app controls that conversation. See How to fix the Thread Ownership error. You do not need to set Inrō as a "primary receiver" or default routing app to fix this.
🐾 Netsuke's Tips
Most connection issues trace back to one thing: the Facebook login session that first connected Inrō has expired or been invalidated. A reconnect from Accounts → Instagram account clears it in most cases.
If you recently changed your Facebook or Instagram password, reconnect right away. Password changes revoke app permissions behind the scenes.
Use a desktop browser for connection troubleshooting. Mobile browsers handle Meta's login flows inconsistently, and a private or incognito window stops stale session cookies from getting in the way.
