Fix: 'Already Connected to Another Account'

This message means your Instagram account is already linked to a different Inrō account. Here's how to free it up and connect where you want.

If Inrō blocks the connection with "already connected to another account," it means the Instagram account you're trying to connect is already linked to a different Inrō account.

In Inrō, one Instagram account can be connected to only one Inrō account at a time. This keeps each account's contacts and conversations isolated and prevents two workspaces from managing the same DMs. To connect the account where you want it, it first has to be free from the other Inrō account.

Why you're seeing this

The account is usually tied up in one of these ways:

  • You already connected this Instagram account to another Inrō account, maybe under a different Inrō login or an earlier signup.

  • A teammate, agency, or the account's previous manager connected it to their Inrō account.

  • You started fresh with a new Inrō account, but the Instagram account is still linked to your old one.

If the other Inrō account is yours

If you have access to the Inrō account that holds it, you have two paths:

  • Keep using that account. Go to Profile → Switch account and select the one with your Instagram account already connected. Your contacts and conversations are there.

  • Move it to a different Inrō account. There's no button in Inrō to disconnect an Instagram account, so the account has to be released by our support team (see below). Once it's free, connect it to the account you want.

⚠️ Releasing an Instagram account stops its automations and inbox sync in the Inrō account it leaves.

If someone else connected the account

If an agency, a former partner, or a previous team member connected it to their Inrō account, it has to be released from there before you can connect it. There's no disconnect button in Inrō, so ask them to contact our support team, or contact us yourself (see below). Once it's released, try connecting again.

If you can't reach the other account

Sometimes you can't get the account released: you've lost access to the old account, the agency is unresponsive, or you want to keep a special price tied to your current account. In that case, reach out to our support team and we'll reset the connection based on your situation.

This is the same reset described in How to change your linked Instagram account, and the same conditions apply.

If the problem is that you've forgotten which email address owns the Inrō account that holds it, use the recovery link on the connect screen: enter your Instagram username and Inrō emails the address already linked to it. The email goes to the existing owner's address, not to whoever asked, so it can't be used to take over someone else's account. The same recovery is on the Forgot password page, and is covered step by step in Can't Sign In? Recover Your Account With Your Instagram Username.

⚠️ A reset clears the contacts, conversations, scenarios, and campaigns on the Inrō account being reset. Nothing is removed from Instagram itself, only from Inrō. Tell support which account and situation you're dealing with so they can pick the safest option.

🐾 Netsuke's Tips

  • If you manage several Instagram accounts, give each one its own Inrō account rather than trying to swap them on a single workspace. Switching between them takes one click under Profile → Switch account.

  • Before asking support for a reset, double-check you aren't logged into the wrong account. The account you're looking for may already be connected one switch away.

⚠️ If the issue persists

If you've freed the account and connecting still fails, the problem may be a different connection error. See How to fix common Meta & Instagram connection errors, or contact support with a screenshot of the message.
