How to send surveys in DMs

Quickly create, test, and deploy surveys in Instagram DMs to efficiently gather valuable user insights.

Updated today

Surveys in Inrō enable you to capture essential data from your audience directly through Instagram DMs. Whether you’re looking to gather CRM information, qualify leads, or book meetings, surveys effectively engage users and drive conversions.

Two Types of Surveys

  1. Simple (Single Question)

Acts like a quick poll or a single-choice question. Perfect for short interactions like feedback or a yes/no query.

  2. Multiple Questions

Functions as a mini-questionnaire, allowing you to capture multiple data points in one go. Great for contact forms, in-depth lead qualification, or collecting detailed user feedback.

Creating a Survey

You can create surveys in two ways:

  1. Directly in a Campaign or Scenario

    • When designing your campaign or scenario, add a survey step. This opens the survey creation window, letting you configure the question(s) without leaving the flow.

    • Useful if you already know the specific automation or message sequence where the survey will appear.

  2. From the “Surveys” Tab

    • Go to AutomationSurveys to manage all your surveys in one place.

    • Click Create survey, choose the survey type (single or multiple questions), then add your questions, possible answers, and any follow-up messages.

    • This method helps you maintain a library of reusable surveys you can later insert into various campaigns or scenarios.

Designing the Survey

Creating a survey in Inrō can be done simply in the following steps:

Design the Survey Card

  • Set the main message, a supportive subline, and a clear Call-To-Action (CTA) that appears as a card in Instagram DMs.

Develop Your Questions

  • Add your survey questions and configure each option. You can choose additional options like - marking as compulsory, allowing only one answer etc.

  • You can also set it to automatically save responses into a designated contact property or folder.

Finalise and Deploy

Test the Survey

  • After creating the survey, click Test survey to see how it appears in Instagram DMs.

  • Verify question formats, answer options, and any logic (e.g., “save reply to contact property”) before sending it to a larger audience.

Deploy in a Campaign/Scenario

  • If you haven’t already added the survey during creation, open your existing campaign or scenario.

  • Select Add Step, choose the Send a survey option, and pick the survey you want to use.

  • Adjust any timing, logic, or conditions (e.g., time delays or wait-for-reply steps) so the survey appears at the optimal moment in your flow.

After launching, use the Results tab to view and download survey data for further analysis.
