Payment Failed or Plan Downgraded: How to Get Pro Back

What happens when a Pro renewal fails, why scenarios stopped or you can't upgrade, and the one step that restores your plan.

If your Pro renewal didn't go through, Inrō doesn't cut you off on the spot. You get a grace period, a few reminders, and a direct way back. This article explains the timeline, what each stage looks like in Inrō, and how to fix it.

The timeline after a failed charge

  • Day 0. Stripe couldn't charge your card. You get one email from Inrō about it, and Stripe sends its own reminders while it retries the card over the next week.

  • Days 1 to 14. Nothing changes in Inrō. Scenarios run, campaigns send, the API and your AI Agent keep working. Inrō sends you a reminder on day 3 and day 7.

  • Day 14. If the invoice is still unpaid, your account moves to the Free plan and you get a "plan suspended" email. Free-plan limits apply from that moment: 100 activated contacts a month, 3 active scenarios, and no integrations, scheduled campaigns, API or MCP access.

The 14 days count from your oldest unpaid invoice, so a card that keeps failing doesn't get a fresh two weeks every month.

What you'll see in Inrō

  • An Unpaid invoices notice in the sidebar (also on Profile → Subscription & add-ons) with a Pay invoices button.

  • After day 14, scenarios above the Free limit are switched off. Inrō keeps the 3 that triggered most recently and emails you the list of the ones it deactivated.

  • Campaigns and scenarios that reach the Free activation cap show contacts as Limited rather than sending.

How to get Pro back

  1. Click Pay invoices in the Unpaid invoices notice (in the sidebar, or on Profile → Subscription & add-ons). It opens a secure Stripe page for the invoice.

  2. Update the card if needed and pay.

  3. Pro is restored right away on the same subscription. There's nothing else to reactivate on the billing side.

  4. Scenarios that were deactivated at day 14 stay off. Open Automation → Scenarios and switch back on the ones you want.

⚠️ You can't start a new subscription while an invoice is outstanding: Upgrade sends you to the unpaid invoice instead. Paying it is the only route back, and it's the quickest one.

If the payment went through but you're still on Free

Inrō mirrors Stripe's status a few times a day. If you paid a few minutes ago, give it a moment and refresh Profile → Subscription & add-ons. If it still shows Free an hour later, contact support with the invoice number from Your Invoices & Billing Details.

🐾 Netsuke's Tips

  • Pay from the first reminder email. Fixing the card on day 2 avoids everything in the timeline above.

  • After a downgrade, check your scenarios list before your next campaign. Automations that were switched off don't come back by themselves when you upgrade.

  • If you changed company or card, update the payment method in the billing portal (Manage plan) so the next renewal doesn't fail again.
