AI credits let you try your AI Agent before you move to a paid plan. Every account starts with a pool of free credits, and each AI action spends one. Once you're on Pro, credits stop mattering: AI is included with no limits.
This article explains what spends a credit, what happens when you run out, and where to check your balance.
What AI credits are
Free AI credits are a starter pool for accounts that aren't on Pro yet. You begin with 50 credits, and finishing the onboarding checklist adds up to 50 more, for 100 in total. Each use of an AI feature spends one credit.
Inrō also runs occasional promotions that grant extra credits to accounts on the free plan. These are announced by email, so watch the newsletter if you'd like to top up without upgrading.
If you're on the Pro plan, none of this applies to you. Pro includes AI features with no credit drain and no limits, so you can ignore the credit count entirely.
What uses a credit
A credit is spent each time the agent does something powered by AI. That includes:
The agent sending a reply to a DM, and auto-liking a friendly message.
Detecting an intent or a contact property from a conversation.
The AI actions inside a scenario: AI Agent auto-DM, AI Agent message, AI Agent auto-comment, Hand over to AI Agent (its task checks), and AI-detected condition.
The AI matching inside an Ask a question step and the AI detection inside an Ask for information step, when AI is on.
Shopify product replies, where the agent suggests products in a DM.
Each of these costs one credit per run. See AI Smart Actions in Scenarios for what those scenario actions do.
What happens when credits run out
This is the part worth knowing in advance. When your free credits hit zero, Inrō turns AI off and, as a safety step, switches your agent to Disable all replies for you.
The effect is that the agent goes quiet everywhere: it stops answering DMs, and the AI actions inside your scenarios skip too. Nothing is deleted, but nothing AI-powered runs until you add a paid plan.
⚠️ This switch is automatic and silent. If your agent suddenly stops replying and you're not on a paid plan, an empty credit balance is the first thing to check. See Activation Rules for the mode it gets switched into.
How to keep your agent running
To use AI without watching a credit count, move to the Pro plan. Pro includes AI features with no credit drain and no usage limits, so the agent keeps running however busy your DMs get.
You manage your plan from Settings → Billing. For how billing and plans fit together, see Subscription & Plans: How Billing Works in Inrō.
How to check your remaining credits
If you're on the free plan, Inrō shows a Free AI credits gauge in the sidebar with your remaining balance. Click it to open the billing page, where you can move to Pro.
Accounts on Pro don't see the gauge, because their AI usage isn't metered.
🐾 Netsuke's Tips
On the free plan and want more runway? Finish the onboarding checklist to add up to 50 credits, and keep an eye on the newsletter for occasional credit promotions.
Treat free credits as a test drive, not a running balance to protect. They're meant to let you see the agent work on real conversations before you decide on a plan.
If you're testing the agent heavily in the in-app chat and through scenarios, expect the count to drop quickly. Each AI reply is a credit, so a few back-and-forth test chats add up.
Moving to Pro doesn't only refill credits, it removes the limit entirely. If the agent is part of your day-to-day, Pro is the steadier setup.
