Surveys: Build a Survey and Read the Answers

Create single-question and multiple-question surveys on the Surveys page, save answers to contact properties, test a survey, and read or export the results.

A survey asks your contacts a question in their DMs and keeps their answers in Inrō. You build surveys on the Surveys page, send them from a scenario or a campaign, and read the results on the same page.

The Surveys page: Search surveys, Create survey, and a list of surveys with type, sent, completed and created date, each with Edit and an arrow.

To open it, go to Automation → Surveys. The page lists every survey with how many times it was sent and completed. Use Search surveys to find one. Click Edit on a row to open it, or use the arrow next to Edit to Duplicate or Delete it.

Choose a survey type

Click Create survey and pick one of two types:

  • Single question: one question with answer buttons, right in the DM. Good for quick polls and "which one?" questions.

  • Multiple questions: a short form the contact opens from a button in the DM. Good for sign-ups, feedback and anything with more than one answer.

The Select a type of survey window with Single question and Multiple questions.

The type can't be changed later, so pick the one that fits before you start.

Build a single-question survey

  1. Write the question as the Title of the survey (up to 80 characters), and add a subtitle if it needs context.

  2. Add the answer buttons with Add option. Each label is up to 20 characters.

  3. For each option, you can choose On reply, add to folder and write a reply that goes out and reply when someone taps it. This is how a single-question survey reacts: each answer can sort the contact into a folder and answer them on the spot.

  4. Turn on Accept only one answer per contact if each person should vote once.

  5. Click Save.

A single-question survey with the title Which offer do you want? and two options, each with On reply, add to folder and and reply, next to its preview.

Build a multiple-question survey

The editor has three tabs.

Message is what the contact sees in Instagram: a Message title, a Message subtitle and a Button label (up to 20 characters) that opens the form. The preview shows the message as it appears in the DM.

Form holds the questions. Click Add question for each one, then choose its type:

  • Text, Long text, Email, URL, Phone, Number or Date

  • Checkbox

  • Multiple choice, with Add option for each choice and Accept multiple answers if more than one can be picked

Mark a question Required when the form can't be sent without it. Use Save reply to contact property to store the answer on the contact's profile, where your automations and segments can use it. You can also add a footer text under the questions.

The Form tab: questions with their type, Required and Save reply to contact property, the footer text box, and the preview.

Results shows the answers once people reply (see below).

Click Save when you're done.

Test a survey

Click Test survey in the editor and pick a contact. Inrō sends them the survey for real, so test with yourself or a teammate.

Send a survey

A survey goes out through the Send a survey step in a scenario or a campaign. A multiple-question survey branches on When survey is filled and If survey hasn't been filled after a delay you choose, so you can thank people who answered and nudge those who didn't. See Conversion Actions: Links, Payments, Bookings & Surveys.

Read and export the results

Open the survey and go to its Results tab. In a flow, the Send a survey step also has a View results button.

  • A single-question survey shows how many people picked each option.

  • A multiple-question survey shows Sent, Completed and Completion rate, then one row per answer, with the contact's name, username, the date and what they answered. A contact who answers twice shows up twice. Click Export results to download them.

The Results tab: Sent, Completed, Completion rate, Export results and the answers table.

Answers you saved to contact properties also show on each contact's profile. See Contact Profiles & Custom Properties.

🐾 Netsuke's Tips

  • Map every important answer to a contact property. The results table is good for reading, but properties are what your automations, segments and AI Agent can use later.

  • Keep forms short. Three or four questions finish far more often than ten.

  • Test on your own phone before sending to a list: you see the DM and the form exactly as a contact does.
