Instagram Lives: Collect Leads, Sell Products & Gamify

Use Inrō during Instagram Live streams to DM everyone who comments a keyword, collect leads, sell products, and gamify engagement while you stay on the stream.

Instagram Lives get strong real-time engagement, but most of it disappears when the stream ends. This playbook captures it: automatically DMing everyone who comments a keyword during the live, collecting their info, and moving live viewers into a funnel that keeps working after you log off.

What you'll build

A scenario that fires during your live when someone comments a keyword. It DMs them automatically while you're still streaming, delivers a lead magnet or product link, and files them in a folder for post-live follow-up.

A live-triggered scenario with the Live comments trigger, a welcome DM, a conversion or email step, and a folder.

How the Live comments trigger works

The Someone comments on your Live trigger is separate from the regular comment trigger and only fires during active live streams. When a viewer types your keyword in the live chat, Inrō DMs them automatically, so you can run a full DM flow without touching your phone. The same one-message rule from Comment-to-DM: Turn Comments into Customers applies, so lead with something tappable.

⚠️ The Live comments trigger is a Pro feature.

Step 1: Create the scenario with the Live trigger

Go to Automation → Scenarios → Create new scenario. Click Add trigger and select Someone comments on your Live. Set the filter to comments with a keyword and pick something short and memorable: "LINK", "YES", "IN", or a word tied to your offer like "GUIDE". During the live you'll tell viewers to type this word to get whatever you're offering.

Step 2: Send the first DM

Add a Send message action. This lands while the viewer is still watching, so keep it punchy and contextual:

  • Gamification: "Hey {{contact.first_name}}! You're in. Here's the exclusive link I mentioned."

  • Lead gen: "{{contact.first_name}}, thanks for joining the live! Here's your free resource:"

Follow immediately with the payoff. They typed the keyword to get something specific.

Step 3: Choose your flow by goal

  • Sell a product: add a Conversion link with your product URL and a button like "Shop now". On the clicked branch, confirm and file them in "Live buyers". See Conversion Actions: Links, Payments, Bookings & Surveys.

  • Collect leads: add an Ask for information set to Email, then confirm and file them in "Live leads".

  • Gamify (giveaways, challenges): file participants in a "Giveaway entries" folder and confirm their entry: "You're entered! I'll announce the winner on my next post."

A conversion link with clicked and not-clicked branches and a folder on the clicked branch.

Step 4: Run post-live follow-up

Everyone who typed your keyword now sits in a folder. After the live, send that folder a DM campaign: a recap, a replay link, or a next-step offer. A lot of a live's value converts here, because viewers who didn't click the first link often do within 24 hours.

Variations

Multiple keywords, multiple paths. Add two triggers (for example "BEGINNER" and "ADVANCED") and use a Scenario condition to route contacts to different DMs based on which word they typed.

Live-to-booking. For Q&A lives, prompt "BOOK" to fire a DM with a Calendly link so viewers book without leaving Instagram. See Selling Courses, Tickets & Bookings via DMs.

Grow other platforms. Prompt a keyword to send a link to your YouTube, podcast, or community. See Cross-Platform Growth: Drive Followers to Your Other Channels.

Results to expect

Live comment flows can produce a high volume of triggers in a short window: a live with 200 viewers where you prompt the keyword twice can generate 50 to 150 triggers. Open rates on live-triggered DMs are among the highest in Inrō, since contacts get the DM while actively on Instagram, and post-live follow-up campaigns commonly see 50 to 70 percent opens within 24 hours.

🐾 Netsuke's Tips

  • Use the scenario's run-once setting so a viewer who types the keyword twice doesn't get duplicate DMs.

  • Avoid common words. "LINK" and "YES" work because they're unambiguous; "IT" or "ME" gets matched by normal chatter.

  • Tell viewers exactly what to type: "Type the word LINK in the comments right now." Clarity drives participation.

  • Pin a comment with the keyword during the live so it stays visible as new comments roll in.

What's next?

Keep the momentum going after the stream. See Re-engagement Campaigns for Cold Leads if your live contacts go quiet, or Selling Courses, Tickets & Bookings via DMs to build a structured post-live sales sequence.
