Understanding Thread Ownership

If you see a Conversation locked message in your inbox and your messages are not being sent, it's probably because of Thread Ownership.

Updated over 3 months ago

Thread Ownership is a feature offered to Messaging applications by Instagram to enable taking control of a conversation for a certain period of time so other apps do not interfere.

In that case, other apps, like Inrō, can request access if they need to send a message during that period.

However, it is up to the controlling app to accept this request or not. If they don't accept, we will be locked of sending messages until the ownership expires.

Inrō does not take control of conversations as we believe it creates more problems than it solves

Handling locked conversations

When a conversation is locked, it means another app has taken control and did not accept our request. In that case, you will see a message in your Inbox:

Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do when this happens, you will have to wait until the displayed date and time to send messages in this conversation from Inrō.

Even if you remove the controlling app from your Facebook account, the conversation will stay locked until the end of the period

Preventing locked conversations

Only the Primary Receiver app of your Facebook page and Instagram account can take control of conversations.

If you want to make sure that conversations are not locked, you can switch your Primary Receiver to Inrō. We never take control of conversations so all other apps will still have access.

To change the Primary Receiver, go to the Facebook page linked to your Instagram account then Settings > Page Setup > Advanced messaging.

In the Advanced messaging page, click on Instagram receiver and select Inrō in the list of apps.

Changing your Primary Receiver will not unlock conversations that already been locked but it will prevent locking in the future
